Give yourself a strategy - some easy steps

Have A Blog Marketing Strategy?

As a blogger today, if you want to have any real success, you will have to have a blog strategy so you know what to do when to do it.
Before you can develop a strategy, you will first have to know what your goals are with your blog. Think about your short and long term goals.blog-marketing-strategy
If you don’t know where you’re going, then no matter how good the plan is, you will fail.
Below I share my strategy to help you grow a popular blog that will get read, shared and will make you money.
Well it will if you follow it :)

Why Are You Here

Before you start a blog you should really know a few things first.
Why will your blog exist?
What will be your blogs topic?
What are your short and long term goals with your?
Once you have the answers to those questions, it will make things like, writing content, targeting readers, finding people to connect with much easier.

Match Your Content

Now that you know what your blog is here for, it is time to start writing content to match.
Staying on topic with everything you write may be the most important thing you do with your blog, especially if you are trying to build your brand with your blog.
Example:
On the Money Dummy blog, I talk about Blog Marketing, Social Media, Marketing, Twitter Marketing, Entrepreneur help and some Inspiration thrown in.
I write content to fit those things, since those are the things I know pretty well. I do that to help enforce the brand I am trying to build.
There are many things I don’t write about on my blog, since I either don’t do them or I don’t know how to do them.
I don’t write about Youtube, since I don’t do many videos.
I don’t talk about PPC, since I don’t really know it.
My content stays on topic to the things my blog is about. So when people visit my blog, they first see what I talk about, they then find the content that matches that.
This is the best way to get first time visitors to become long term readers.
Look at it like this…
Have you ever seen a crazy post title and thought “I have to read that”?
Then you get to the post and it has NOTHING to do with the title?
Annoying right?
That is how visitors will feel if your blog says it’s about one thing, but you don’t really write that one thing.

Share Your Brain

As a blogger there will come a time when you will move from sharing what you know Free, to sharing what you know in a product or service.
But before you get to that point, you will have to share  A LOT of high quality FREE information.
They should come in all forms, blog posts, ebooks, videos, Q and A’s from readers.
Share helpful, fully detailed blog posts.
Write high quality ebooks,
If someone emails you a question, answer it.
If a reader asks you a question in comments, answer it.
If a followers asks you a question on Twitter or Facebook, answer it.

I covered the power of answering questions on Twitter on my Twitter Branding post, that will help drive home the power of answering questions.
To build a successful blog, you will have to give, give, give in the beginning, but the more free information you put out, the easier it will be for you to sell information in the future.

Promote That Content

I have covered blog post promotion in detail before in my 7 Step Plan To Promote A New Post.
Promoting a blog post correctly is the most important thing you can do for your blog.
Yes, writing great content is powerful, but promoting that content to as many people as you possibly can will take you blog and brand to a new level.
Strong promotion will help drive traffic and new readers to you blog, and one of the best ways to use that is when you have a service or product to sell.
Have a new ebook coming out on “dog training”?  Well a few weeks leading up to that announcement, you should write posts that fit what you new ebook is about.
Example post ideas:
Why dog training doesn’t have to be hard.
How happy you will be with a well trained dog.
Tips to help you train your dog.

This way you are sharing a taste of what the ebook will be about and getting people interested in reading your great dog training tips.
Now you take each of those posts and promote the ish out of them, “my 7 steps about will help :) “
Once you do that, you will have more people reading your blog and thinking about dog training and why they need to train their dog.
You then release your new dog training book and enjoy the extra income :)

Keep Growing Your Reach

This goes for your blog readership and your social media followers.
You want to continually reach new potential readers and customers on a daily basis. If you want to have a successful blog, you will have to be seen by a lot of people.
The more people that read your blog, the more people you will have talking about your blog.
As far as social media sites, you should never settle for the targeted followers you have today, you should be connecting with new people on a daily basis.
Ways to grow your readership:
Write blog posts targeting keywords, to help grab search traffic.
Do guest posts on blogs that are related to your blog topic.
Spend some money on advertising, like banners on related blogs.
Do slide shares, press releases, articlesvideos which will all help bring in new readers.
Look for and connect with new targeted people on Twitter, Facebook, Google+, Linked In.
High quality content will attract new followers.

To continue to grow your readership you will need to do everything I shared above and more.
Be creative, and find new ways to get you and your blog in front of more people.

Share Your Awesome

Who are you?
What makes you different?
What makes you stand out?
Whatever it is that makes you, YOU, you need to learn to share that awesomeness will others.
Everything in this blog marketing strategy that I just shared works, BUT it will work even better for you if you can do it all will some personality.
I know, I say that a lot, but it is so damn true that I have to keep saying it :)
Sharing your personality will help people relate and connect with you and your blog much faster.
Yes you want to share great helpful content, but if you can do it in a way that doesn’t put people to sleep is sooooooo much better.
Sharing your unique personality will also help you sell products and services faster.
If people like your content and like the way you share it, then they will automatically feel the same way about your services and products.
Example:
I loveeeee how JP writes his blog posts, I bet his product is just as helpful and fun and easy to take action on.
I loveeeee how JP shares what he knows, I bet working one-on-one with him would be easy, laid back and easy to take action on.
Once you get your readers to relax and relate and connect with you, you will be well on your way to building a blog that becomes a business.
